Since 1st July 2006, any new product placed on the market in the European Union must comply with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive. This text aims at limiting the use of hazardous substances in EEE.
From 22nd July 2019 onwards, a new version - RoHS III - comes into application and integrates 4 new phthalates: diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), benzyl butyl phthalate ( BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP).
This entry into the RoHS directive makes this family of substances an important issue for regulatory compliance. Other potential regulations and substitute phthalates will now be impacted.
With the inclusion of 4 new phthalates in the RoHS Directive, what are the challenges for 2019 for the electrical and electronic equipment industry?
