All European countries require a declaration to local poison centres for hazardous mixtures placed on their markets. This declaration is the source of information for healthcare professionals in the event of an incident or exposure to these products.
Currently, each Member State has its own reporting procedures and declaration platforms. This makes marketing rather difficult, at a European scale. In order to facilitate the declarations, the European Union has chosen to harmonise the information to be provided to poison centres as well as their format.
Besides, since 24th April 2019, ECHA has launched a new, online submission portal which centralises both the declaration and the verification of notifications by the industry and by the authorities. While this portal does not yet avoid local declarations in some Member States, it should ultimately become the sole reporting platform. It is already the mandatory entry point for affixing the UFI number on labels from 1st January 2020 onwards.
